At such times, we asked Ananya about the films she frequently watches, which inspire her and help her unwind after a long, tiring day. The Student Of The Year 2 star says, “When I was growing up, I used to watch the same kind of movies over and over because they really calmed me down. I like Om Shanti Om, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum Pasand, and later I also enjoyed Luck By Chance and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. These are all my comfort films even today. I make it a point to go back to them at least once a month I am, and if not all, definitely on one of them. I have to play it and watch it from beginning to end. It is something that keeps me in a good mood, no matter how tough the day And no matter how tired I feel. In the last two years, I have also started consuming cinema from world-cinema verticals. I have enjoyed quite a few titles in Indian regional cinema, and I am quite impressed with what I have seen. I am amazed. It is great to learn about cinema by seeing some of the things created by great people.”
Talking about great people, when asked which artists influence her, Ananya says, “So many people! I have always been a big fan of Alia Bhatt. I am outspoken about it. I love his work and I love his soul. I am always looking forward to his work. With so much nuance and innovation she packs so much and she has some amazing work to do. Allu Arjun is another actor whose work I have just started and I think he is the best person ever. I aim to see something new every day and be inspired by it in some way or the other. Like I saw Clojure and I love Natalie Portman’s work. She was amazing in that character. So, the idea is to inspire every day of the year.”
Ever since Ananya has entered the business, its dynamics have changed a lot. As an artist, she has experienced it all for the first time. With increasing competition at every nook and corner, it is becoming increasingly difficult for young actors to prove their mettle and carve out enough space for themselves. “That’s what I wanted to do – be an actor. Being a working actor every single day of the year inspires me. Many of these actors were there for years but now they are shining. Whatever good performance I see.” Hoon, that inspires me to do better. It’s time to become an actor. We are really lucky that we are not tied to any specific platform or medium. Anything to take away from the movies we see in theatres. No; they’re an experience. And there’s a thrill about doing films that are made with a lot of freedom and that take the risk of saying things that aren’t usually talked about or discussed It’s a perfect opportunity to totally go out and try different things,” concludes Ananya.
