During an interview with Cummingsoon Dragon Ball Super: Super HeroIn the release, Chris Sabat, the voice of Piccolo and Vegeta, discussed the bond developed between Nemekian and his longtime disciple.

When asked about Piccolo’s father’s relationship with Gohan, Sabat entered his thoughts on the dynamic:
“It’s very, very clear that Piccolo means a lot to Gohan’s entire family,” Sabat said. “And we know Piccolo very well that he wouldn’t be doing the things he does for Gohan and Videl and Pan if he didn’t feel like it. It’s clear that he loves his family. He loves them.” knows very well. The kind of things he gets away with in this movie are things you can’t do to someone unless you’re very sure you have a very close relationship with them.”
Sabat then talked about Piccolo’s prominence. super heroWhere he has significantly more screentime than Goku and Vegeta.
“I love that Piccolo was forced to take this film in a way he’s never had to do before,” Sabat said. “It’s clear that he goes through his whole Rolodex of things to help him before he realizes [that] It’s all on him and it’s all on Gohan. And I love those moments where Piccolo would turn to the camera, like literally turn to the audience, and say ‘Yeah! Gohan’s back!’ And I think everyone feels it even at that time.
