The House of the Dragon was founded some 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, when the Targaryen dynasty ruled Westeros. House of the Dragon opens during the reign of King Viserys (Paddy Considine), whose queen Emma Aryan (Cyan) is expecting a baby. The king is convinced that it is a boy, the heir to his throne. In the end, the queen dies in labor after a long, bloody and brutal childbirth, where the lord is forced to cast the young prince out of her. Many viewers and critics felt upset by the brutality of the scene.
In an interview with Variety, Cian talked about filming it, saying, “It was a bloodbath. There was a whole bag full of blood and fluid behind that belly. When the incision was made, they felt this blood. time to get it out of the stomach.” She added that the blood was “cold and wet, seeping all around,” and as the gruesome scene ended, “it looked like a horror movie,”
The actor said that he spent almost the entire scene screaming as his character was shown to be in a lot of pain. “I was definitely quite cranky. My kids couldn’t really hear me for the next 48 hours, but that’s probably the best thing on their part. For a few days after filming, it seemed like I was having a great night.” I have gone out and had a great time. Sadly it didn’t happen; I was lying in bed screaming,” she said.
House of the Dragons is based on George RR Martin’s Fire and Blood and Dance of the Dragons focuses on the civil war in the Targaryen dynasty. Fire and Blood is a companion book to the author’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, on which Game of Thrones was based. The show airs in India on Disney+ Hotstar and a new episode is released every Sunday.
