Managing Director of Ghana Stock Exchange, Ekow Afedzie retires in November – Citi Business News

The Managing Director of the Ghana Stock Exchange, Acko Afedzi, is set to retire from his position at the end of this year [November 2022]After 31 years of dedicated service.

This was announced at the company’s 32nd Annual General Meeting in Accra.

Acko Afedzi was appointed as the Managing Director of the exchange on January 1, 2020.

Commenting on his exit, Mr. Afedzi expressed his gratitude to the Exchange’s Council, headed by Absa Bank’s Managing Director, Abena Osei-Poku, for their unwavering support and commitment to the development of the local exchange.

“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Council for its unwavering support and commitment to the development of the Exchange. My deepest appreciation is also to our stakeholders: Licensed Dealing Member, Ghana Fixed Income Dealer, Associate Member, Listed companies and financial media houses for their tireless support for the development of capital markets.

“I would also like to show my appreciation to my management colleagues and employees for their commitment to the development of the exchange for the 31 years that I have been a part of this great organization”, he said.

“As I bend to move forward on my retirement, I am very confident that I am leaving the exchange in capable hands to continue the great work I began in moving the exchange from a marginal market to an emerging market.” , which has a significant contribution to the development of the economy of Ghana”, he said.

Profile of Ekow Afedzie

Mr. Afedzi was confirmed MD of GSE with effect from January 1, 2020. Prior to this, he was serving as the Managing Director, taking over from Kofi Yamoh with effect from August 1, 2019.

Prior to assuming the role of Managing Director, he was Deputy Managing Director for 10 years.

Ekow Afedzie has worked with the Ghana Stock Exchange, GSE, since its inception in 1990.

He brought on board more than 28 years of experience in capital markets, some of which was spent as Head of Marketing, Research and Systems and General Manager of the Exchange.
